Immigration investments or “Golden Visa investments” have become an uprising trend since the European crisis started. These investment programs are basically a tool that grant wealthy investors residing outside Europe an opportunity to “purchase” a passport or residence permit that applies to all 26 Schengen countries. Different countries have different conditions and benefits, but they generally require investments with varying price tags.

The investment conditions of Portugal and Spain are at the higher end of the spectrum with a minimum investment of €500,000, while Cyprus has a lower requirement with an entry price of €300,000. The popularity of these investments are apparent as countries strive to provide more attractive offers than their counterparts, with Greece coming in with the lowest entry price to date at €250,000. With a property purchase that satisfies the minimum investment, foreigners can acquire a Golden Visa that grants access to 169 countries globally.

The first of such projects is the Athena Residence development that will be introduced to the Hong Kong public in an exhibition on 22 – 23 November at Regal Hong Kong Hotel. This project comprises of freehold apartments in the city centre of Athens.
